From carbo-loading and marathon running to a high fat, hunter-gatherer diet; Prof Tim Noakes gives simply brilliant testimony to our ancestry and evolution as it pertains to diet. We get into a number of different areas but maintain the focus surrounding a high-fat diet. We cover the biological mechanisms at play and how evolution lends itself ton this type of eating. We discuss vegetarianism and veganism and their sustainability; as well as the ushering in of grains and carbs as a Western staple. We ask the questions “can one gain weight on a high-fat diet” and “how does cholesterol affect those on a high-fat diet”?

We talk about his criminal charges laid by government, universities and the dietitians association of South Africa; and what it was like to be the first scientist charged for having an opinion (and getting taken to court for it!)

About Prof Noakes: Tim does a fantastic job at backing up his claims with decades of research. He has published more than 750 scientific books and articles. He has been cited more than 16 000 times in scientific literature, has an H-index of 71 and is rated an A1 scientist by the National Research Foundation of South Africa.

After coming across research which denounced current international dietary guidelines as fallacy, Prof Noakes started researching the effects of carbohydrates, proteins and fats on the human race. His research convinced him that a high fat, low carb diet is the healthiest option for many. After being left frustrated by a decline in his personal health, Prof Noakes has made it his mission to reverse the global trend and redefine the dietary guidelines. The Noakes Foundation is the catalyst for this change. It seeks to reveal what genuine healthy nutrition looks like and, in doing so, make a difference in the lives of millions of people.
